Having had a long run of great entertainment and mythbusting, Jamie and Adam have moved on to new ventures in life along with the rest of the team.
Sometimes we take things for granted while we have them and don’t realize how great something is till it is gone. That is exactly how I feel with Mythbusters being gone. Countless years of great entertainment that started with such a simple but great idea. We have all questioned at some point in life if certain myths were true or not. Jamie and Adam had the great foresight to put a show together that did just that.
Episodes such as the one above were just part of some of those random questions we would all ask but never have a definitive answer for. Thank you guys for all your years of dedication and hard work to keep us entertained.

I have to say that this was one of those myths as kids that we used to talk about. When you are young, you just can’t quite grasp that fact that there is a maximum speed a falling object can hit without external force. You simply think that, “well, the higher I go, the faster it will get”.
That is true to a point, but after that point it levels off. It still leaves you to wonder what kind of impact a penny at full velocity would have hitting someone in the head. I sure as heck wouldn’t want to be the one standing under the test, even if it is just a penny. I suppose it is kind of like walking over hot coals, you know it can be done safely , but that doesn’t mean that you want to rush out and try it.
As you can see in the video, Adam and Jamie replicate the speed a penny will reach using air guns and test the impact on both concrete and replicated flesh and bone. Surprising enough, the damage is minimal. This chimes Adam in to test it on his own hand. I’m sure the insurance companies were squirming on that one, but come to find out, it did little to nothing in the end.
Deciding to ramp things up as they always do, the increase the speed by 3x to see what kind of damage the penny could have on the concrete and a direct hit to the head. It did leave quite an impression in the concrete and pierced the skin on the head, but never stuck into either like the myth we would hear as kids would imply.
The fact that they would give visual and scientific examples was always great and sometimes eye opening.
